I always hate the end…:(

Man, I can not believe this semester is done and we have to move ahead now, but I have my unique experience from my English. This semester was unique because now I am little more confident about my skills in English. I never liked English as I am a math lover, but I think it is not that bad. There is a huge difference in my writing method from last year and this year. Ms. Mazzaferro used to comment on our work and give us tips to improve. I never felt any pressure while doing work. Sometimes my friends say I should be a philosopher, even I feel that because I have lots of things to say in my mind. I try bringing it out when I am talking to my friends but I think it makes better sense if it comes out on paper. I had this opportunity when Ms. Mazzaferro came up with an assignment of making a blog. Even thought the semester is done, I am going to keep posting new topics and my ideas.

Now let’s talk about fun and friends. I had fun and made lots of new friends. Even though I wish not to end my friendship with them, everyone is going to be busy with their lives and studies. I hope to see them again in future. I will write a “good bye” comment on everyone’s blog once the exams are done. Ms. Mazzaferro told us to rate our teachers depending on our experience with them. Well, it is a good idea but I love my teachers are all of them are valuable to me. I wish I had some pictures for my own memories. I had a hard time during the last two weeks of the semester but I learned something good from that and I am always going to remember it. What I think about that is, “whatever happens with us in this world, happens for a good cause.” I am not saying I am going because I think I had moments of happiness with all of you which are going to be in your hearts just like they are in mine.

In the end, I would like to say “sorry” to Ms. Mazzaferro and my mates if I ever did any mistake or if they ever felt I was unfair to them. Come on guys, you are all my friends…:D

What is a MAN...?

I used to imagine a lot about how a real man should be. Finally I get a chance to convert my imagination into words. For me, a real man is the one who respects his family, society and his country without putting anyone else down. I am from India, a country on which the British Umpire ruled for almost 200 years. Indians fought for almost 60 years before they got the freedom. In that freedom fight, there were many people who sacrificed their lives for the country. For them, India was not just a country, but a land they were born from and they would do anything to make it prosperous. That is how a real man should respect his country. When I was a kid, I was told lots of stories about these freedom fighters and their lives. A man is able to care about people and things that are close to him and protect it. He loves his country and also respects others (country).

If it comes to family and society, a real man respects others the way they should be respected, without behaving in an ostentatious or conspicuous way. A real man is the most decent personality in the family and is able to face difficulties.A real man has his own identity; He is lovable, respectful, honest and responsible so that everyone can count on him. He is able to take responsibilities of his wife and his children and support them in every single way.

A real man can stick to the truth without in any circumstances without getting intimidated by anyone. He is judged by his inner qualities rather than outer looks; his outer body might be not that strong, but his will power would be strong enough to face the reality. A man would never cheat anyone in order to get something or any other purpose. If people are unfair to him, he would make them realize instead of punishing them. He knows how to forgive. He would not talk at anyone’s back, but would go up to that person and say it.

A real man does not lie, because he does not need to. He knows his limit and would never tend to cross it. He favors others but never gets any from anyone. In his quote, Henry Ward Beecher says, “A man ought to carry himself in the world as an orange-tree would if it could walk up and down in the garden,--swinging perfume from every little censer it holds up to the air.” When it comes to justice, a real man judges fair. He would not see if it’s his family member or friend who is in fault, everyone is equal for him. He does not know what ‘fear’ and every word he speaks is valuable.

Is it Lady Macbeth's fault?

It is true that a wife should be the biggest support to her husband, but in a good way. It is a wife’s duty to guide her husband if he is doing something wrong. In some religions, wife is considered half body of her husband.
In the great Shakespearean play of “Macbeth”, Lady Macbeth plays a really critical roll. Lady Macbeth is a deeply ambitious woman who lusts for power and position. Even though the majority of women had very limited rights during the time of William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth stood up to Macbeth and dared him to do what was to be done for him to be the King. When we first see her, she is already plotting Duncan’s murder, and she is stronger, more ruthless, and more ambitious than her husband.
Even though three witches predicted that Macbeth was going to be the king, Macbeth himself was not sure if he should think about it or not. After that, Lady Macbeth was the one who encouraged him to kill King Duncan and seize the crown. He is led to evil initially by the witches' predictions and then by his wife's goading, which he succumbs to because he loves her.
Macbeth feels guilty after killing the king, but Lady Macbeth convinces him by telling him that water can wash the blood and their deeds.
Macbeth was comfortable where he was, he was curious about the fact the witches stated, but he didn't want to force it to work. After Lady Macbeth's help in the killing of Duncan, the only influence she has upon him is to keep everything to themselves. In this way, whenever Macbeth was unsure of killing anyone, Lady Macbeth pushed him by insulting him being a man. A good wife should never support her husband in crimes; she should remind him of being honest and loyal to his king instead.
Lady Macbeth called the evil spirits to unsex her from woman to man (mentally), so that she can think like a man and do all the evil things. For a while, let’s just say that it was the “Evil spirits’’ who made her do all the crimes, but she was the one who called them. She had the idea of calling the bad spirits to make her strong enough to support his husband in his crimes. It looked like; she would commit all the murders, if she was a man.
In the beginning, we get to know that Lady Macbeth’s father was murdered. Even though Lady Macbeth had this tragedy in her life, she made Macbeth kill King Duncan. That shows how cruel she could be in order to achieve something. A woman is a daughter, a wife and a mother, which is the symbols of Love, but Lady Macbeth, was ambitious enough to forget this.

Prophecy - Knowledge of the Future

In my English class, we are studying the famous play "Macbeth" written by William Shakespeare. We watched the whole play

and the "Three Witches" caught our attention many times. They made future predictions about Macbeth and Banquo. Then we talked about a person who makes predictions about the world in present. Her name is Ms. Sylvia Browne and she predicts about almost everything from human life to weather report. Yes, it is quite strange when you meet someone like her.

I personally do not support Prophecy due to many reasons. One of them is my faith in God. That allows me to think that whatever happens in this world, happens for a good cause, so there is no need for me to know the future. For me, every single person in this world has a unique power; Prophecy could be one of them a person could have. I am a Hindu and in my culture, it is not insane to claim to have such powers to predict future. It is not scary at all, because I have been going threw this from the day I was born. A Pandit (more like a holy person) made my “Birth-horoscope” and did my name ceremony according to my horoscope. When my best friend in India was born, a Pandit told his mom that water could trouble his life. Even though his mom is a well-educated person, she performed all the holy acts that would save my best friend from the danger of water. Nothing wrong has happened to my friend yet. He is a healthy guy and can swim really well. It’s the matter of belief. If you believe, you believe 100% and if you do not believe, you do not believe at all.

Even though I do not support Prophecy, I sometimes look in the daily horoscope that comes in the newspaper and most of the time it is true what they say about me. I do not check a particular horoscope every day but I have started believing in them. What I have been noticing is that, if what is written in the horoscope turns out to be true for a person for long enough, that person would start believing in it. My mom somewhat believes in prophecy. When I was a kid, I used to be short-tempered, so my mom got my horoscope checked and depending on the predictions, I was given a locket with a small white marble in between. That white marble is a marble of Moon. Moon because it is a cool place and it would keep my temper down.

If we look at Sylvia Browne’s life, she started seeing visions when she was three years old. After that, her grand mother Ada Coil and her uncle who claimed to be a psychic medium, supported her to understand what she was going threw. If what I said in the paragraph below is true for an average person, it happened to Sylvia when she was a 3 years old kid. I am not supporting the fact that she can predict the future, but there is something that we average living people do not know. Sylvia Browne charges $750 for a one-hour conversation with her on phone, which is expensive. Again, it depends on the person. People, who believe in Prophecy and trusts people like her, would pay anything to know how their future is going to be. I would never let a person earn money in this way from people, not because I do not support it, because she is asking for excessively much. Prophecy could be helpful in police investigations and other important things but that does not mean anyone should be the way Sylvia is. By charging $750 to those who are eager to know their future, she is just being a jerk.

As I said before, in my culture, horoscopes are widely used in order to live happy life. For example, when a girl and a guy are getting married, their horoscopes are matched to see if their future life will be safe and happy. When people buy a house, they consider buying one according to their horoscope. Prophecy is connected my life and I have to deal with it. As I said before, I do not believe in it for many reasons, but It’s part of my life.
